About WE-EMPOWER
Launched in April 2022, WE-EMPOWER is a 2.5-year transnational collaboration dedicated to the active participation of migrant women, including gender non-conforming individuals, in civic and democratic life across Europe.
The overarching objectives of this initiative
Empowerment and Inclusion
Empower migrant women by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to participate fully in democratic processes.
Visibility and Representation
Increase the visibility of migrant women in civic and political arenas, highlighting their contributions and encouraging others to follow their lead.
Advocacy and Policy Influence
Advocate for more inclusive policies and practices by engaging with policymakers, politicians, and institutional bodies.
Visibility and Representation
Strengthen the capacities of partner organisations and migrant women in using effective communication tools, media, and non-formal educational resources.
Community Engagement
Foster a sense of community and support among migrant women through creative and accessible methods, enhancing their ability to participate in democratic life.
Resource Development and Dissemination
Develop and disseminate a variety of educational materials and resources designed to promote the engagement of migrant women in civic activities.
WE-EMPOWER unites seven women-led and migrant women-led organisations, all committed to safeguarding and advancing the rights of migrant women, and is financed by the European Union’s ERASMUS+ programme.
Through this initiative, we aim to create a lasting legacy of inclusion and participation, ensuring that the voices of migrant women are heard and valued in the democratic processes of Europe.
Throughout the course of the project, several studies have been conducted on the political participation of migrant women in various European countries. Other resources have been created to provide teachers, trainers, and educational institutions with practical tools and insights to encourage migrant women to participate in democratic life. International trainings and multiplier events have also been organised to share and disseminate findings and the tools more broadly. You can find the reports and other resources relating to the project here.
One key aspect of the WE-EMPOWER project was
the creation of a “Treasure Box”.
What is a “Treasure Box”?
Figuratively, a “Treasure Box” often describes something rich in valuable resources. At WE-EMPOWER, our online Treasure Box is a curated collection of non-formal educational materials, communication tools, and messages. Each “treasure” within the box has been developed by our partner organisations with the aim of empowering migrant women and enhancing their inclusion in democratic processes.
Within the Treasure Box, you’ll discover various materials and communication formats
Highlight Roles
Showcase the contributions of migrant women in civic and political life, serving as role models for others.
Promote Inclusion
Encourage policymakers, politicians, and institutional bodies to foster greater inclusion.
Provide Education
Offer non-formal education and support tailored specifically for migrant women.
Enhance Communication Skills
Improve the capacities of civil society organisations in utilising effective communication tools and strategies.
Utilise Media
Build the abilities of civil society organisations to use media and communication methods accessible to other migrants.
Increase Awareness
Raise awareness and provide information on the importance and methods for migrant women to participate in democratic life.
The WE-EMPOWER Treasure Box aims to engage migrant women through creative and appealing methods that are easily accessible.
It includes a diverse range of formats such as podcasts, videos, presentations, documentaries, action guides, artivism, and much more. Additional resources and materials will be continually added to the Treasure Box over time.
To explore the Treasure Box, you can use various filter options based on language, country, theme, or type of material.
